I'm hosting my first virtual race to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training!! I am currently training for the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney World to be held in January, 2013. This will be a half-marathon on Saturday, and a full marathon on Sunday. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
This will be a virtual 5k/10k/mini-miler (1 mile run for ages 12 and under) called the If You Can Dream It Challenge, taken from Walt Disney's quote, "If you can dream it, you can do it."
Here's how it works:
Walkers and runners welcome! Invite your mom and dad, brothers and sisters, gather up your kids and their classmates, your cousins, co-workers, running group, high school friends, teachers... Connect with someone and make a pact to participate together. Or do it on your own. Dedicate your runs to helping the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. And get bling in return!
Select the race distance(s) you want to complete: 6.2 mi (10k), 3.1 mi (5k) or 1 mi (kids only). The registration fee of $25 includes a race medal (pic to come soon), finisher's certificate, and Happy Band, and is a tax deductible donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Register through the links on the right, or through PayPal by using my e-mail address paigeh3@gmail.com. ***Note--the closing date will be November 24th so I can order the medals and have them ready to ship after the race.
You can walk, run, skip or crawl the distance. You choose your route -- it can be in your neighborhood or even on the treadmill at your gym. You are in complete control of where you start and where you finish. And it's all on the honor system.
For those living in the Champaign-Urbana area, I'd like to get a group together to run the morning of the 1st. If you're interested, note that when registering and I'll get you the details.
Please record your time, maybe take a photo if you want, share your "map my run" or Garmin route, and send whatever you want to share to me at paigeh3@gmail.com so that I can post results. Those reporting their results on my facebook page, will receive an extra little goodie in their goodie bag.
Beginning December 3rd, I will mail out your finisher's medal and other goodies.
Have I said that all proceeds from this event will go toward my fundraising for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? Yep, that's right!! It does. And remember, the donations are tax deductible.
Please share this event with all of your friends and organize a group run to benefit LLS.
Thank you for supporting me and my Team in Training efforts.
